Faucets account for 16% of water use inside the home.
Find and fix any leaky faucets both inside and attached to your house. A faucet leaking 60 drops per minute will waste 192 gallons per month. That is equal to 2,304 gallons per year.
Install efficient faucets and/or faucet aerators. WaterSense® labeled efficient faucets and aerators use a maximum of 1.5 gallons per minute and perform as well if not better than standard faucets.
Running hot water out of a faucet for five minutes is equal to the amount of energy it takes to burn a 60W incandescent bulb for 14 hours.
Turn off the faucet while soaping hands, shaving or brushing teeth.
Avoid using running water to thaw frozen foods. Instead, defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
