Avoid stagnant water in buildings that are currently not in use! Many of us have transitioned to working from home and office buildings may not be used as frequently as before. Don't let your absence result in stagnant water!
Here are some tips for keeping tap water fresh if you're gone for a period of time:
💧Maintain a reasonable temperature setting for the HVAC system in the building to avoid excessive air temperatures - warm air will cause a rise in temperature in the plumbing, which promotes biological activity.
💦Disconnect and drain water from appliances (refrigerators, coffee makers, etc.), if possible.
🌡️If the water heater is not drained, maintain the setting at a temperature at or above 120°F.
🚰Flush hot and cold water fixtures on a weekly basis for about 2 minutes. Extended duration may be needed if flushing is conducted less frequently.
🚽Verify that flushing is effective by monitoring for a disinfectant residual using a simple test kit - I would hope each office should have someone familiar with disinfectant residual testing. If not, a test strip for hot tubs should work just fine.

We’re not out of the woods yet!
If you choose to go play outdoors, please be vigilant about avoiding busy trail heads and recreating safely. Keeping your dog on a leash as often laws require will also help people stay at task. As always giving 6 feet of space to folks you encounter helps minimize the spread.
Our emergency responders are always here when we need them, but lets continue to stay safe outside so we don't need to activate them potentially putting them at risk while we're enjoying the outdoors.. Have a safe and great week Bozeman.
