The Bozeman Fire Department staffs one of six regional hazardous materials response teams in the state. The team no only covers the city and region but has partnered with Gallatin County since 1986 to provide a county-wide level A hazardous materials response. The City/County HazMat team is comprised of approx. 18 Bozeman Fire Department personnel who are specially trained at the OSHA Hazmat Technician level or above.
Gallatin County helps support the City's efforts by annually contributing up to $7000 in 50/50 training, equipment and operating, and equipment repair and maintenance reimbursement. The State of Montana also appropriates funding to the six regional teams annually.
The team participates in monthly trainings and annual drill requirements along with annual physical exams in order to maintain their status.
