Why Leaks Matter
Be Better Than a Statistic
10% of homes in the US have leaks that waste about 90 gallons of water per day. In fact, on average, 13% of annual indoor residential water usage is attributed to leaks.
Be better than a statistic. Take control of your leaks and save valuable water for our community and cash on your utility bills. By fixing leaks, together we could save up to one trillion gallons annually. When we all do our part to conserve water, everybody wins!

Leak Identification and Repair
Toilets
Did you know that toilets can be the highest using water fixture in your home, even when they aren't leaking? Repairing a leaking toilet can save you up to 200 gallons per day or about $45 per month on utility bills.
Before embarking upon any toilet leak identification and repair, check out the Read This Before You Flip Your Flapper page prepared by WaterSense®. Then, stop by the Water Conservation Division office to pick up free toilet dye tabs and a new 3" toilet flapper.
Have you had enough of your old, inefficient toilet? Why repair the leak when you could buy a new, high efficiency porcelain throne? Check our Indoor Rebates page to see how much cash you could earn for retrofitting your inefficient toilet with a WaterSense® replacement.
Showerheads
If you see or hear water dripping when the shower is off, or you see drips or stray sprays when the shower is on, your showerhead has sprung a leak. A showerhead leaking 60 drips per minute can waste about 3,000 gallons of water per year, which is enough water to take an additional 180 showers! Nib that drip NOW to avoid a costly utility bill at the end of the month.
Most showerheads leak at the threading, where the showerhead connects to the pipe. By applying Teflon tape around the threading, you can ensure a tight, leak-free seal between the pipe threading and the showerhead. And while your at it, why not replace the washer that sits inside the showerhead? Check out the video below to learn more about showerhead leak repair and replacement:

Faucets
Aren't you tired of watching your leaky faucet drip every single day? A faucet dripping ten drops per minute can waste more than 500 gallons of water per year. It's time to take back the tap and make faucet leaks a thing of the past! Follow along with the video tutorials below to learn how easy it can be to replace a leaking washer or gasket.

When Should I Call the Plumber?
While DIY plumbing repair can often be fun and easy, things don't always go according to plan. If you ever feel uncertain about how to proceed with your own plumbing repair project or if you are unable to identify the source of the problem, it's always your best bet to call a licensed plumber. Plus, time is money, and the longer your leak persists, the higher your monthly utility costs will climb. While the up-front cost associated with professional plumbing services can sometimes feel daunting, quickly and decisively eliminating the source of a leak often saves you money in the long run.
