If you're selected for the trial jury,  you'll be reimbursed $25 per day. 

If you're called for jury duty but you're NOT selected for the trial jury, you'll be reimbursed $12 per day. 

You should also receive mileage for your travel between your home and the court. See the clerk for the mileage form when you check in for jury duty.

When you are initially chosen for the jury pool, you will have an opportunity to request to be excused.  Say you have moved out of town, or you have a medical condition that would preclude you from participating, you will make that request with your initial questionnaire. You will need to provide proof in the form of an envelope or package label with your new address or a medical note. You will be notified whether you are excused for the year.

When you receive a summons for a specific trial date, you will have another opportunity to be excused for that specific date. You may request to be excused from that date should you have a vacation planned or a special event to attend or have a mandatory appointment or exam. You will fill out the affidavit on the bottom of the summons and return it to the Court with your excuse and any supporting documents (travel itinerary, etc.) Please note that a busy work or school schedule is typically an insufficient reason for an excusal. 

 All requests are reviewed by a judge and you must attend jury duty unless you receive confirmation from the court that you have been excused. 

Municipal Court trials are typically scheduled for only one day.  If it is known that the trial may take two days, the jury summons will provide that information.

Potential jurors who are called but not ultimately selected for the jury trial are usually excused by 11 AM. 

Your juror number is on the front of your white jury notification postcard. It can also be found on the top right hand corner of your blue jury summons. If you have lost your notification postcard or summons, please contact the Court at (406) 582-2040 ext. 3 or email jury@bozeman.net.

First, call the number on the top of the page to check in with the jury clerk. Let them know that you will be submitting an excuse. Then, fill out the bottom portion of the affidavit and provide any proof of your undue hardship, like a travel itinerary or a doctor’s note, and mail or hand deliver the affidavit to the Court at the Bozeman Public Safety Center, 901 N. Rouse Suite 235. You may also email your request for an excusal to jury @bozeman. net. Please remember: a judge will review your request and you are not excused until a judge orders your excusal. 

Yes, retirement and/or employment status are not disqualifiers for jury service. But, if you are over the age of 75, and do not wish to serve or cannot serve on a jury, please submit a request to be excused either by mail or email.
