We are committed to providing the best possible fire department for Bozeman. 

BFD follows the Center for Public Safety Excellence recommendations. It provides guidance on accreditation for individuals and organizations.

BFD has 10 members who completed the CPSE Commission on Professional Credentialing process. These members earned internationally recognized third party credentialing. The process evaluates fire professionals' training, education, community involvement, professional contributions, and future professional development goals.  It requires a three-year renewal. This makes sure members continue to grow in their jobs.

The CPSE Commission on Fire Accreditation reviews overall organization effectiveness and efficiency by comparing departments against national standards and best practices. BFD started working toward accreditation in 2022. We earned accreditation in April 2025.

The process required a 3 to 5 year commitment to development of a strategic plan, self-assessment of all internal programs, and completion of standards of coverage. This coverage adopts response expectations to both emergency and non-emergency calls.

 The accreditation is a huge honor for our department. There are currently fewer than 300 accredited departments in the world.
