In the Project Documents folder, the planning projects are organized by project number. The project number can be found on the public notice you received in the mail, or saw posted on a public notice sign. When navigating to a project in the Project Documents folder, the first two numbers of the project number will indicate the year submitted. For example 24111 would be a project in the 2024 folder and 25111 would be a project in the 2025 folder. A direct link to each project’s folder is also available on our Community Development Viewer map. Here you can pan and zoom the map and then click on projects to pinpoint information about the projects you are interested in learning more about (See FAQ instructions below). Projects that are proposed (designated Application Received, On Hold, or Initial Review) will have a summary sheet in their online folder. Projects in Review (designated Public Notice or Final Review) will have a summary sheet, public notice, and full plan sets in their online folder. Project status changes through the review process are indicated by a change in color on the Community Development Viewer Map 

Projects in public notice will show green on the map. The public notice form in the project’s documents folder will indicate the dates that public comment is open for that particular project. Comments provided during the public comment period will be included in the staff recommendation to the review authority.

All projects processed by the Planning Division receive staff review for compliance to the City’s municipal code and state statutes. They then may go on, depending on the project type, to be reviewed by city boards such as the Community Development Board. These board meetings are open to the public and their date, time and location will be listed on the public notice. The staff planner assigned to the project will then take their recommendation, the advisory board recommendation, and public comment to the review authority responsible for the final decision.

 

There are two types of review authority, certain types of projects are reserved for public hearing and the City Commission is responsible for the final decision, others are administrative reviews and the Director of Community Development is responsible for the final decision. More information on review authority designations can be found in the Bozeman Municipal Code (BMC) Section 38.200.010.

•  Public notices for administrative reviews will have a green colored font for the title heading on the public notice. These are applications where the final decision on the project is the Community Development Director. On these projects, the public may comment in writing regarding compliance of this application with the required criteria. Comments should identify the specific criteria of concern along with facts in support of the comment. Per 38.250.070.B, BMC, issues not raised during public comment period may not be raised on appeal. During the notice period the City will continue review for compliance with applicable regulations. • Public notices for public hearing or public meeting by the City Commission will have a blue colored font for the title heading on the public notice. The public may comment orally at the public meeting or hearing or in writing at or prior to the public meeting or hearing regarding compliance of this application with the required criteria. Comments should identify the specific criteria of concerns along with facts in support of the comment. During the notice period the City will continue review for compliance with the applicable regulations. Comments may be directed via email to comments@bozeman.net. Project information and linked documents available online for active projects is provided for informational purposes only and is subject to change as the project moves through the review process.  Applications for modification of approved plans may not be available here.
