Bozeman Starts Community Engagement for Urban Forest Management Plan Update

Post Date:04/08/2026

The City of Bozeman is updating its Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) and kicking off with public engagement. All are invited to the virtual UFMP Public Engagement Meeting on Tuesday, April 28, from noon to 1 p.m. To attend, register at engage.bozeman.net/urbanforest.

The UFMP Update builds on the 2016 framework to ensure sustainable, holistic, and efficient management of the city’s urban forest. The updated plan will guide Forestry Division operations, planning, and public outreach, incorporating professional analysis and community input through meetings with staff, officials, local stakeholders, and residents. Key components of the plan include infrastructure and management, planning and development, community engagement, and insects and disease impacts and disaster preparedness.

“Our urban forest is a key part of what makes Bozeman such a beautiful, healthy, and safe place to live,” said Bozeman’s Parks & Recreation Director, Mitch Overton. “We are a community that cares about our trees, and we’re eager to hear more from our residents about their priorities as we update our plan.”

There will be continued community engagement during the development of the plan. Interested residents will have the opportunity to learn about the project, give input, and review the draft UFMP before it is finalized by Bozeman City Commission.
