City of Bozeman Invests $29 million in 2026 Infrastructure Construction Projects

Busy construction season is now underway on local roads in Bozeman
Post Date:04/01/2026

The City of Bozeman’s Department of Transportation & Engineering and Department of Utilities announce 14 projects totaling $28,830,898 coming in the 2026 construction season. These improvements focus on a shared commitment to renovating existing infrastructure while investing in new capacity to address the growing Gallatin Valley.

“As many know, we have two seasons in Montana – winter and road construction. Due to our mild winter, we’re getting started on construction a bit earlier than usual,” explained Transportation & Engineering Director Nick Ross. “We have some exciting projects being done this season that will ultimately improve travel for everyone, but first, we ask everyone to stay patient and safe as you navigate our work zones.”

Utility renovation and replacements include 14,600’ of sewer main, 9,053’ of water main, and various storm main segments across the City. Projects include constructing a new large sewer pipeline (MSU Interceptor) from the intersection of Kagy Blvd and S Wilson Ave to the intersection of Babcock St and S 9th Ave for improved capacity, service reliability and resiliency. City Streets Division will perform more than one mile of street paving associated with utility improvements to reduce impacts on the community and save taxpayer funds that would typically be spent on contractor services.

Transportation improvements include pavement resurfacing projects on E Babcock St from S Willson Ave to S Rouse Ave, Baxter Ln from N Cottonwood Rd to Riata Rd, and N 15th Ave from Durston Rd to W Oak St. The City will also continue its “friction seal” treatment, a specific paving technique that helps reduce tar and chips on the road, in local subdivisions and downtown streets.

Transportation projects also include various safety improvements, such as added left-turn lanes on Oak St and Ferguson Ave, two neighborhood traffic circles on N Black Ave at the intersections with Lamme St and Villard St, and modifications to College St from 8th to 11th Ave to enhance safety and accessibility for people walking, biking, and driving. Four new segments of shared-use paths will also be built on existing streets across the city.

Finally, projects to increase capacity include the connection of N 27th between Baxter and Cattail with a two-lane collector street, shared-use paths on both sides of the street, a traffic signal at Baxter Lane, and a roundabout at Cattail St.

Project funding includes a mix of grants, impact fees paid by development, and city assessments for improvement to existing infrastructure.
