Montana local and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Michael McFaul, will discuss his latest book, “Autocrats vs. Democrats: China, Russia, America, and the New Global Disorder,” at an Authors and Books event on Monday, Dec. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. at Bozeman Public Library’s Community Room. The public is invited to attend the event and learn more about how a new Cold War has begun, one that has united autocracies and now presents challenges to the democratic world.

“This fascinating talk will cover the times we’re living in now as Americans and is relevant to everyone in our community,” said Ben Nielsen, Head of Adult Programming and Outreach at Bozeman Public Library. “We’re honored to host this event and learn from someone with such deep knowledge of global affairs.”

“Autocrats vs. Democrats” details America’s retreat from the world, highlighting concerns around Russia’s ambitions, China’s capabilities, and how Trump’s shift towards isolationism and autocracy may weaken America’s place in the world. It presents a nuanced discussion on China and Russia’s threats, as well as what it would take to renew the United States’ leadership on the world stage.

Dr. McFaul is the Ken Olivier and Angela Nomellini Professor of International Studies in Political Science, Director and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and the Peter and Helen Bing Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, all at Stanford University. He is also an international affairs analyst for NBC News. He has served in the Obama administration and has authored and co-authored several books, including New York Times bestseller, “From Cold War to Hot Peace: An American Ambassador in Putin’s Russia.”

This event is made possible by the Bozeman Library Friends and Foundation. Visit the webpage to find out more information on this talk.
