Police Weekly Update 4/10/2018

Between April 2 and 8th, 2018 the Bozeman Police Department handled 880 calls for service and generated 94 investigations/arrests. During the week, we responded to 31 motor vehicle crashes, we also responded to 27 theft reports, 13 disorderly/disturbance calls, made eight warrant arrests and responded to seven domestic violence reports.

DUI Hit and Run

At 10pm on April 2, 2018 officers responded to a report of a hit and run on the west end of Bozeman. The witness reported one of the wheels had come off the suspect vehicle. Regardless of the missing wheel, the suspect Jeep left the scene. The female suspect was only able to travel a short distance on the mostly disabled vehicle and then returned to the scene of the crash on foot. Officers noted several indicator of alcohol impairment and requested the female perform standardized field sobriety maneuvers. The female did attempt to perform the maneuvers but exhibited several clues indicating the alcohol impaired her ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. It was determined her breath alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit. She was arrested for second offense aggravated DUI, Careless Driving and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Disorderly Warrant Arrests

Just after midnight on April 5, 2018, officers were dispatched to a report of several males causing a disturbance outside of a North 7th Avenue hotel. When the first officer arrived, one of the males started running from him but another officer who had responded to the area quickly apprehended him as he entered a nearby business. As other officers arrived, they contacted other males involved in the disturbance reported by citizens. During the subsequent identification of those male, two of the males were determined to have warrants for their arrests. All three were taken to jail.

Burglary of Property from a Garage

On April 5, 2018, an officer took a report from a victim who had items stolen. The victim reported overnight someone had entered her open garage and took a ski backpack from inside of her vehicle parked in the garage.

Stolen license plate and drug possession

While on patrol, an officer located a vehicle in a parking lot having a stolen license plate on it. Other officers arrived on scene and they waited until the two occupants of the vehicle exited a nearby business and returned to the car. Officers contacted the males and began investigating the situation. During a subsequent search of the vehicle and the two males, as well as in depth interviews with the suspects, it was determined one of the males was in possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia. One male was charged with the possession of the stolen license plate and the other was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stolen Pickup

Today, April 12, 2018, a parking enforcement officer was on patrol and located a stolen Ford pickup. The vehicle had been reported stolen from an area near Lamme and Rouse around noon on April 7. A police sergeant arrived and was able to return the vehicle to its owner.
