Post Date:12/06/2017 2:26 PM

Between November 27th and December 3rd, 2017 the Bozeman Police Department handled 795 calls for service and generated 64 investigations/arrests. During the week, we also responded to 38 motor vehicle crashes, made nine warrant arrests and four DUI arrests.

Damage to Parking Garage

On November 27th, an officer took a report regarding damage done to the parking garage Downtown. The officer learned an individual had pushed an exit gate up in order to exit the garage without pay causing damage to the gate. A video recording of the incident was reviewed and the suspect and his vehicle were clearly identifiable. The officer contacted the suspect who ultimately admitted to the crime and was charged with criminal mischief.

Stolen Hotel Key Cards

Around 6:30 pm on November 30, 2017, officers responded to a report of a trespass in progress at a North 7th Avenue Hotel. The investigating officer learned a male was in one of the rooms who had stolen some key cards from the hotel a previous night. The male had not paid for a room and they were kicking him out. The male had left the hotel as officers were responding but was located nearby. The officer observed the male and was already aware he had warrants for his arrest and was being sought by probation and parole. The officer took the male into custody and transported him to the jail. The male said he had bought a key card from “someone” for $10 but the surveillance video told another story. The male was clearly observed in the video going behind the counter at the hotel and taking the key cards. During his arrest, the officer also located drug paraphernalia and the male.

Missouri Fugitive Arrest

About 5 pm on December 1, 2017, officers learned information regarding the possible location of a fugitive wanted in Missouri for a weapons offense. Multiple officers went to the local hotel where the male was believed to be. Due to the nature of the information surrounding the warrant, officers took necessary precautions to protect others in the hotel and evacuated the rooms surrounding where the suspects room. Officers knocked on the door and announced their presence. The fugitive male exited the room and was taken into custody without incident.

Felony DUI

Just before 2 am on December 3, 2017, officers responded to a citizen report of a drunk driver just exiting the interstate on to North 7th Avenue in a red pickup. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and driver in the parking lot of a North 7th convenience store. The driver showed several indicators of alcohol impairment and ultimately was determined to have a breath alcohol concentration two and a half times the legal limit. The arresting officer also obtained a search warrant for a blood analysis of the driver. The officer discovered the driver had three previous convictions for DUI making this fourth offense a felony charge.

Drive-Through DUI

Just after 3 am on December 3, 2017, an officer responded to a report from a Bozeman business about a male driver who was in a drive through challenging people to fight. The employee reported the male driver exited his vehicle on several occasions and challenging people to fight. When officers arrived, the employee pointed the suspect vehicle out to an officer. The vehicle was exiting the drive through and officers stopped the vehicle. The driver said he had two beers but refused to submit a breath sample. Again, a search warrant was granted for a blood analysis and the driver was arrested for DUI.
