WATER INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

 

Service Requirements

 

  1. Service line must be the same diameter as was applied for.
  2. Curb Box Nuts must be fully tightened down, (Shoulder The Nut To The Valve).
  3. All underground plumbing must be done by licensed plumbers.
  4. Copper must have a 6 foot bury with no dents in the copper.
  5. Copper must be 6 foot to the inside of the footer.
  6. Copper needs to be adequately distanced from fresh air vents.
  7. Copper must be 12-24 inches from the floor or ground. And 12-24 inches from the wall. 
  8. If Copper comes through the wall it requires a straight or angle stop 12-24 inches from wall and 12-24 inches from the floor.
  9. Copper coming through the floor requires an angle stop.
  10. Angle Stop, Meter, and Backflow assembly must be same size as line size.
  11. Backflow assembly must be directly attached to meter coupling unless prior approval has been obtained.
  12. Backflow assembly must be directly attached to meter coupling unless prior approval has been obtained. Watts L 7 Dual Check is the only back flow prevention allowed
    for single family homes and residential duplexes. Shut Off Valves on backflow assemblies are not accepted as down stream Shut Off Valves.

  14. Service line size reductions must be within 18 inch of the curb box.
  15. There will be no copper to coppers allowed for 3/4" and 1" services under the footers or inside the foundation wall before the meter. 
  16. For 1 1/2 and 2 inch services use straight length copper type K annealed, meeting AWWA standard C800, a quarter bend coupling must be used under footer.

Any deviation from the above policy must be approved by the Water Department Superintendent prior to installation. 

 

Water Department Recommendations 

  1. It is recommended that any water service going through a cement slab or wall have a flexible sleeve.
  2. It is recommended that any water meter location be at least 4' from any fresh air vents.

Prior to Request for a water service inspection

  1. Application must be made at the Building Department.   
  2. Address must show on the property for inspections and water turn on.
  3. Ditch must be reinforced  safely with a trench/coffin box and ladder provided.
  4. Crawl space access with ladder must be easily accessible to the meter.
  5. Ground water must be pumped out below Curb Box and Service line.
  6. Call The City Shops at 582-3200 by 12:00 pm (noon) for an inspection request for same day.

 

 Prior to water turn on

  1. Curb box must remain at grade (not buried) and steel marker post maintained 1' from Curb Box toward the house buried 2.5' and having 4' exposed above ground and painted Blue.
  2. Water turn on requests are to be called into City Hall at 582-2328, before 12:00 pm (noon).
