City of Bozeman and Gallatin Solid Waste District

The City of Bozeman is a member of the Gallatin Solid Waste Management District.  As of April 18th, 2008 the Management District has assumed operation and maintenance of the recycling drop off sites throughout Bozeman.  At each site residents are able to recycle newspaper, magazines, steel and aluminum cans,  cardboard, and plastic.  Click for locations and acceptable materials.  All calls concerning the recycling sites should be directed to the Gallatin Solid Waste Management District at 582-2493.

The Convenience Site will accept the above mentioned recyclables:

Wire – clean and un-insulated wire including barbed and woven wire is accepted in the wire recycling area.  All wire must be clean and free of all contaminates.

White Goods – Appliances such as water heaters, washers, driers, stoves, sheet metal, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners are accepted in the white goods recycling area.  Certification stating the Freon has been removed needs to accompany the appliance and doors need to be removed from refrigerators and freezers.  The white goods are baled twice per year and transported out of state for processing.

Compost – The benefits of composting to the environment are substantial.  Each household that composts diverts over 650 pounds from the main waste stream each year.

Curbside Recycling - On January 14, 2008, the Bozeman City Commission approved the "Bozeman Recycles Curbside" program which is scheduled to begin in early fall. This will make the City of Bozeman the first municipality in Montana to start a curbside recycling program. The recycling truck has been ordered and is estimated to be delivered in October. This will be a once-a-week pickup for $10/month.

Items that will be recycled include:

Cardboard
Office-type paper
Telephone books
Magazines
Junk Mail
Newsprint
Tin & Aluminum Cans
All Plastics

If you are interested in this program and would like to put your name on the waiting list, please contact Becky at 582-2332. You will not be billed until your service begins.
