Bozeman and Gallatin County Join Forces
The City of Bozeman has joined the Gallatin Solid Waste Managmeent District. As of April 18th, 2008 the Recycling Drop Off Sites throughout the County are being managed by the District including the sites in Bozeman.
Materials that can be recycled are newspaper, magazines, cardboard, plastics, tin and aluminum cans.
Recycling sites in Bozeman are located at:
K-Mart, 1126 North 7th Avenue
Wal-Mart, 1500 North 7th Avenue
City Softball Complex, northeast corner of Highland Boulevard and Ellis Street
MSU Parking Lot, South 13th and College Street

CURBSIDE RECYCLING
By lat summer or early fall the City will be the first municipality in Montana to start a curbside recycling program. "Bozeman Recycles Curbside" will accept newspaper, magazines, cardboard, plastics, tin and aluminum cans. Stay tuned or sign up early by calling 582-2332.
ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS FOR THE DROP OFF RECYCLING SITES
Please do not stack recyclables outside of the bins.
Aluminum & Steel Cans – Rinse and place in bin for aluminum/steel cans. In order to conserve space, crush or flattened cans are preferred. Absolutely no aerosol or paint cans.
Newspaper – Office paper and copy paper, fax paper, carbonless paper, white paper, computer paper, colored paper, are acceptable as well as glossy inserts and telephone books. Please remove any string, wire or twine and place in bin for newspapers. No neon colored paper.
Cardboard – Brown bags, shoe boxes, soap boxes, pop & beer cases, flatten cardboard and place in bin for cardboard. Discard any liners, no foil or wax coated cardboard or egg cartons.
Magazines – All magazines and catalogs are acceptable up to one inch thick, do not worry about paper clips or staples. Magazines or catalogs over one inch thick need to be ripped into one inch size.
Plastic bottles – Most bottles and jars labeled 1 or 2 with openings smaller than the base or widest part are acceptable. Throw away caps, lids and pumps; empty contents and rinse thoroughly. Crush bottles by carefully stepping on them, hold on to something for safety purposes. No other plastics will be collected.
UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS
When contaminates are put in the recycle bins the load is un-recyclable. Please take the time to put all or your recyclables in the proper bins. Please refrain from putting any unacceptable recycle bins, some items that have been put in the bins are the following:
Glass
as well as:
Styrofoam
Packing peanuts
Plastic bags
Wood products
Household garbage
Bags, films, wraps
Toys
Large plastic items – not 1 or 2 plastics
Pesticides and herbicides containers
Motor oil containers
Solvent, paint and adhesive containers
Yogurt and Margarine tubs
Pails
Flower pots and garden plastics
Food storage containers and microwave containers
Please follow the above guidelines for preparing your recyclables for the drop-off bins and help make recycling fun and easy for your community. Help save landfill space, raw materials & the environment by diverting as many recyclables as possible.
