Rental Housing
Roommates & the Rule of Four
It is important for renters and landlords to remember the Rule of Four.
No more than four unrelated people
may reside in a single household unit.
Two related people do NOT count as a single resident when applying this rule.
Here is an example:
Brother + Sister + 3 Friends = 5 people (Violation)
Violations of this code can have severe impacts on a neighborhood due to the increased traffic, on-street parking and noise control. It's better to know and abide by the rule before settling in because violation can result in notification, citation and 30 days to comply with the code before it is turned over to the City Attorney's Office (UDO 18.80.1390). Contact the Code Enforcement Officer to report violations of this code.
