The small strip of grass between the sidewalk and the curb is considered the "boulevard." The responsibility for maintaining the City's boulevards belongs to the adjacent land owners. Maintaining the area benefits the City and the owners. The City does not have the resources to take care of these small sections of grass adjacent to each property and maintenance of the area keeps the neighborhood looking clean and beautiful. Boulevards must be 70% vegetation and cannot be filled with materials other than vegetation. It is also important to know a permit is required before trees can be planted in the boulevard, but the City will be responsible for removal if the need arises. The next time you're out mowing the lawn-don't forget to cross the sidewalk and spend a few minutes on the boulevard!
