Cost Share Program

The Cost Share Program is designed to provide trees along city streets at a shared cost between Bozeman homeowners and the City of Bozeman's Forestry Division. We hope to encourage a diverse selection of hardy species for our community's forest.

To qualify for this program:

1) Planting must be done on city property, including parks and established boulevards.
2) The planting site must be suitable for the tree species selected.
3) One tree per applicant/location.

The cost share program is offered each spring and has a limited number of trees available. Participation in the program is on a first received basis with clip-out applications available in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on March 16th, 19th, 23rd, and 26th, 2008. Applications are also available at the City Shops Complex, City Hall and printable online starting March 17th.  Forestry personnel will start to deliver, install, and stake the trees the middle to the end of April.

EMERALD QUEEN NORWAY MAPLE
(Acer platanoides Emerald Queen')

Emerald_Queen_Norway_MapleEmerald Queen' is probably the most widely used Norway Maple cultivar.  Its crown is oval-shaped, dense and symmetrical, and the lustrous green foliage turns to a brilliant yellow in the fall.  The Emerald Queen' is quite tolerant of climatic extremes and different soil types.  Medium growth rate for maple species.  Mature height:  40-50 feet.

     OHIO BUCKEYE
(Aesculus glabra)

Ohio_BuckeyeDue to its round, broadly-shaped crown, the Buckeye should be reserved for areas with wider boulevards.  Its handsome compound leaves unfold to a bright green, darkening throughout the summer, and then turning to a gold or pumpkin orange color in fall.  Bark is ashy-gray and deeply furrowed, and seeds are solitary, 1-2" oblong with a prickly cover similar to the Common Horsechestnut.  Medium growth rate.  Mature height:  20-40 feet.

     NORTHERN RED OAK
(Quercus  rubra)

Northern_Red_OakA large, stately tree, the Red Oak maintains a rounded growth habit from youth to maturity.  New spring growth is a dusty bronze color, turning to a lustrous dark green, and then to a russet red in the fall.  Acorns are 3/4" to 1" long and make an early harvest for wildlife.  Medium to fast growth rate for oak species.  Mature height:  60-75 feet..

SOLD OUT
IVORY SILK JAPANESE TREE LILAC
(Syringa reticulata 'Ivory Silk')

Ivory_Silk_Japanese_Tree_LiLacA small, single stemmed tree with stiff, spreading branches, the Japanese Tree Lilac develops a somewhat oval to rounded crown with deep green leaves.   Its large, fragrant flowers are quite showy and appear in mid-June.  Our recommended selection for planting under overhead utility lines or in smaller spaces.  Medium growth rate.  Mature height:  20-30 feet.

SOLD OUT
NORTHWOOD RED MAPLE
(Acer rubrum Northwood')

Northwood_Red_MapleKnown for its brilliant display of fall color, the Northwood' originates from a native seedling population in Minnesota.  Green foliage in spring and summer is accented by red leaf stems, samara, and buds, an attractive contrast with its smooth gray bark.  Exhibits a rounded-oval crown shape, sometimes irregular.  Medium to fast growth rate for maple species.  Mature height:  40-60 feet.
