MSU Residential Permit Parking District
In March of 1994, the Bozeman City Commission adopted the MSU Residential Permit Parking District in an attempt to reduce serious parking congestion on the streets in the area immediately surrounding the campus of Montana State University. The district was created by request from the MSU area homeowners. On certain streets, the district designates parking lanes for "Residents" only.
When is the District in Effect?
The residential parking restrictions are in effect year round, and apply only on weekdays (Monday thru Friday) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. excluding legal holidays. All other hours, the general public is welcome to park in the area.
Who is eligible for a Permit?
Any person who lives with the Residential Parking district is eligible to purchase Resident Parking Permits. Each residence is also allowed to purchase two (2) Visitor Permits. Any person employed within the district is eligible to purchase an Employee Parking Permit. Each annual permit is valid from August 1st to July 31st.
What do I need in order to purchase a permit?
You must bring your current vehicle registration, a picture ID, and proof of residency within the district to City Hall, 411 E. Main St., between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Valid proof of residency would be any of the following items dated within the past 30 days:
- Utility statement
- Cable TV bill
- Rent receipt or agreement
- Bank statement
- Credit Card statement
What is the cost to residents?
Residential parking permits cost $10 per year. Visitor permits also cost $10 per year.
How is the district enforced?
The MSU residential district is regularly patrolled by officers of the City of Bozeman Police Department. Vehicles parked within the District that do not have the appropriate permits will be issued a parking violation with a minimum fine of $15. To report violators, please call the City of Bozeman Police Department at 582-2000. Reproduction of a permit, illegal use thereof, or falsifying information to obtain a permit may result in an appearance before the City Court Judge, a misdemeanor charge, and a fine.
