Business Licensing
A business license is required for any money-making enterprise within the city limits. This includes most types of professions, enterprises and establishments. Businesses which operate from a vehicle, use machinery, or people who work with agents need a business license. A separate license is required for branch establishments, including warehouses and distributing plants. If you operate two or more businesses from the same location, you do not need separate licenses. Some professions are licensed by the State of Montana and are not required to be licensed by the City of Bozeman.
Business licenses are valid for one year and expire on December 31st. Renewals are due by February 15th. Failure to renew your license will cost you 10% of the annual license fee for each month your business is delinquent. Businesses licensed after July 1st are prorated on an annual basis. You will be charged 10% of the annual license fee for each month you've failed to obtain a license. If you go out of business, you must call so your account is inacivated, or you will continue to be charged.
Business licenses are available at City Hall, 411 E. Main St. in downtown Bozeman from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
