Aeration Building

Aeriation
  Aeration Basin

The Aeration Building houses the turbine blowers and the de-watering pumps for the four Aeration Basins . The Aeration Basins are the heart of an "Activated Sludge" wastewater treatment system where microorganisms remove the BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand). BOD is a measure of the amount of organic matter in the wastewater.

The microorganisms use this BOD as food to grow and multiply, and thereby convert it into cell mass. The  microorganisms need large amounts of oxygen to metabolize the BOD so the sludge is aerated with fine bubble membrane diffusers which are supplied with air by the turbine blowers. The effluent from the Aeration Basins then flows into four Final Clarifiers .
