Bozeman currently has 7 designated off-leash dog areas;

Map of designated off-leash dog areas.

Benefits of an off-leash Dog Park:

  1. Puppies and adult dogs have a safe(r), enclosed place to play.
  2. Enclosed play areas prevent off-leash dogs from infringing on the rights of other community residents and park users such as joggers, small children, and those who may be fearful of dogs.
  3. A well-exercised dog is a happier and healthier dog.
  4. An exercised dog makes a better next door neighbor than an under-exercised dog. Puppies and dogs which get enough exercise by playing in a dog run, are less likely to create a nuisance, bark excessively, destroy property, jump on passers-by, etc.
  5. In an era where people are often reluctant or afraid to approach or converse with a complete stranger, dog runs bring people together and create a greater sense of community. Dogs help shy people “break the ice”. People’s love for dogs often creates an important common ground, which as if by magic, serves to break down otherwise impenetrable social and economic barriers.
Tips for Dog Park Etiquette:
  • Know each dog park's rules, and follow them.
  • Keep your dog leashed until you're inside the park's area.
  • Never leave your dog unattended, even in an off-leash dog park.
  • Maintain voice control over your dog at all times.
  • If your dog starts to play rough, leash him or her and leave the park immediately.
  • Don't bring toys that dogs could fight over to the dog park.
  • Keep your dog's vaccinations up-to-date.
  • Never bring a female dog in heat to a dog park.
  • Always clean up after your dog.
  • Chasing or harassing wildlife by your pet is prohibited.
  • Allowing your dog to dig park sagebrush or plants is prohibited.
