When Jacob Oakwood, the first City Marshall left his position, he was awarded a
gold headed cane for his remarkable services. He later died in 1885 and left
behind a son, Jacob "Jake" Oakwood who later served on the City Council, worked
on the reformation of prostitution and ironically was arrested for keeping
company with prostitutes. A.P. Clark served as the second City Marshall and was
a charter member of the first volunteer fire department. Berry Fridely was the
third City Marshall and was a member of the Bozeman Band. John Robertson, the
fifth City Marshall, also served four appointments as chief of police.
