for Code Enforcement

PURPOSE: The purpose of code enforcement is to promote the public health, safety and general welfare by carrying out the ordinances adopted by the City Commission. These codes reflect the values of the community through public hearings, input, and revision by the citizens of the City before adoption.

RESPONSIBLITIES: The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for Code found in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and specific Nuisance Codes; this includes Zoning and Sign regulations for the City of Bozeman.

VIOLATIONS: Violations of code or failure to comply with any of its requirements, including violations of conditions of approval, constitutes a misdemeanor. Each day a violation continues shall be considered a separate offense and punishable as such.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
A. Complaints can be filed by written letter or e-mailed to the Code Enforcement Officer. The address of the violation must be on the request. As much detail as possible about the concern should be included; pictures help tell the story. A contact person and phone number should be included to report progress on the case.
