Below is a list of frequently asked questions about the City's Recruitment and
Selection Process. If you do not find an answer to your question below, please
contact the Human Resource Department and they will assist you.
Read the Position Vacancy Announcement carefully for the position for which you
are applying. Note the skills and knowledge required for the position and assure
that you meet the minimum qualifications set forth on that announcement.
Complete each item of the Application for Employment to fully describe your work
or volunteer experience and education. Your qualifications for a position will
depend on your description of previous experience and its relevance to the
position you are seeking.
A. The City's Application for Employment can be found on the Personnel web site under
JOBS and
HR Forms. You can also obtain a copy of the application from the Bozeman Job Service located at 121 North Wilson Avenue, Bozeman, MT 59715. You can also reach them at (406) 582-9200 or via the web at

A. The City of Bozeman posts all external vacancies on the City web site in the following locations: Quick Links – Current Job Openings and Personnel/JOBS. We also post jobs with Bozeman Job Service, Bozeman Daily Chronicle classified section and local colleges' career services department. Some positions are posted on trade organization web sites such as ICCsafe.org, gis-job-finder.com, craigslist.com, planing.com, southwestmontanahelpwanted.com, etc..
A. Make sure you follow the instructions on the Application for Employment and the Position Vacancy Announcement. Submit everything that is requested. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!
A. If the Position Vacancy Announcement states the vacancy is "Open until filled," then YES you may apply again.
A. No, unfortunately the City of Bozeman is unable to accept applications for jobs that are not currently open.
A. No, the City of Bozeman does not accept resumes in lieu of an application. An application is required for each position for which you are interested in applying.
Q. Can I submit my application online?
A. No, unfortunately the City does not have the ability to accept/transmit applications online at this time. We also require original signatures and do not accept faxed applications.
Our Application for Employment can be printed out or downloaded and edited in Word. The City's Application for Employment can be found on the Personnel web site under

HR Forms. Applications are only accepted according to the instructions stated on the Position Vacancy Announcement.
A. The City of Bozeman notifies individuals whether or not they were selected for an interview. Applicants will be contacted by mail to let them know of their status in the recruitment process.
A. As with any organization, the City advertises positions based on vacancies. The City updates its communication tools (Bozeman Job Service, City Web site and Job Posting Boards, etc.,) every week so you can be assured of the most up to date vacancy listings.
A. The city does not have a set date to hire Police Officers. Decisions to hire are based on the number of current vacancies. If you are interested in becoming a Police Officer, please visit the

A. The city does not have a set date to hire Firefighters. Decisions to hire are based on the number of current vacancies. For more information on the Recruitment and Selection Process for becoming a Firefighter for the City of Bozeman, please visit the

A. You should only submit what has been requested on the Position Vacancy Announcement. Any items not requested will be removed from your application packet. However, if requested, in order to receive credit for education or certifications, you must attach proof via diploma, transcripts, certifications, license, etc.
