Safe Routes to Schools Plan
Safe Routes to School - Why is this important?
Are cars speeding near your child's
school? Are too many cars making it tough for kids to cross the street safely?
What are your top traffic safety concerns at your neighborhood school? How can
the city make streets safer for children and families?
Safe Routes to School is an international
movement, and now a federal program, to enable and encourage children, including
those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. This growing program
makes walking and biking to school safer, easier, and more convenient for
students and families.
Safe Routes to School efforts benefit kids
and families as well as the whole community. Successful programs result in
healthier kids, fewer vehicle crashes, less traffic congestion, and reduced air
pollution near schools. Best of all, kids arrive at school ready to learn.
The City of Bozeman, the Bozeman Area
Bicycle Advisory Board, and the Gallatin Valley Safe Routes to School Task Force
have hired a specialized firm, Alta Planning + Design, to develop a
comprehensive Safe Routes to School Assessment of Bozeman schools.
