Climate Action
Committed to reducing green house gas emissions and climate protection for
the City of Bozeman.
In response to citizens concerned about global climate change, the City of Bozeman adopted the U. S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement
on November 27, 2006. The purpose of the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement is for cities to take steps in reducing green house gas (GHG) emissions and implement local commitments for climate protection. Bozeman
joins Missoula, Billings, and Helena along with 972
mayors' representing millions of Americans working towards climate protection.
To assist in the effort, Bozeman joined
Bozeman Emissions Inventory 2000
The Task Force first focused their energy on municipal operations such as public buildings,
parks, water & sewer, the landfill, and streets. After a full year of work,
the Task Force released a document known as the
Municipal Climate Action Plan, which was accepted by the Bozeman City Commission in August 2008.
The Municipal Climate Action Plan set the goal of reducing municipal emissions 15 percent below 2000 levels by 2020 and provides 40 recommendations that identify opportunities to save energy, money, and resources.

Community Climate Action Plan
To fulfill our obligations under the Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement, the
city is now focused on developing a Community Climate Action Plan. This plan
will address the larger Bozeman community, including the residential and
commercial sectors. Through a local grant from New Priorities Foundation, the
City of Bozeman hired a sustainability consultant, to lead a new task force that
will complete the Community Climate Action Plan.
