Sex Offenders

NEW SEX OFFENDER INFORMATION: The 2007 Montana Legislature passed SB 547 which included provisions of Jessica's Law and the Adam Walsh Child Safety and Protection Act for Montana. Included in the legislation were changes governing the registration of juvenile sex offenders. Previously, juveniles convicted of a qualifying sexual offense were required to register as a sexual offender and their information was available on the registry until they reached the age of 21, then it was removed. The general requirement that a youth's records be sealed does not apply to information concerning the youth's duty to register. The department of Justice will no longer remove juvenile sex offenders from its web site at the time an offender reaches the age of 21, and the information about offenders who were previously removed will now be made public.
