The City Attorney is the legal adviser and attorney for the city.  The City Attorney's Office is responsible for protecting the legal interests of the city.  The City Attorney and staff represent the city before all courts, administrative agencies, and all legal proceedings involving the city; prosecute misdemeanors and traffic offenses committed within city limits; provide legal advice to the City Commission, City Manager, and all departmental staff; and prepare or review contracts, deeds, resolutions, ordinances, and other municipal documents. The City Attorney and legal staff do not provide legal services or legal advice to citizens of the City of Bozeman.  The Legal Department's Prosecutors prosecute misdemeanor offenses in the Bozeman Municipal Court.  The Legal Department's staff includes, the City Attorney, two Assistant City Attorney's, two Prosecutors, two full time Legal Assistants and a part time Legal Assistant.  The City Attorney's office also utilizes undergaduate interns from Montana State University and law students from the University of Montana School of Law.
