Board of Ethics

Public Meeting Schedule:

This board meets the third Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Madison room (upstairs) at City Hall, 121 N. Rouse. (The time of the meetings was changed to 3 p.m. in August, 2011.)

Purpose / Creation:

A summary of the responsibilities of the Board of Ethics:

evaluate all aspects of the City Code of Ethics to ensure the public and all public servants have a reasonable opportunity and are encouraged to participate;
develop a plan to educate public servants about their rights, duties and responsibilities;
Submit an annual report of summary decisions, opinions and recommended actions regarding ethical practices or policies;
Arrange for an annual workshop or training program for all board members; and
Conduct hearings as needed.

The Bozeman City Charter adopted by the City Commission in 2008 required the City to establish a Board of Ethics. The Board was then created by Ordinance No. 1726 which was then modified with Ordinance No. 1759.

Liaisons:

This board does not have a City Commission Liaison. The staff liaison and board secretary is Deputy City Clerk, Aimee Kissel. Ms. Kissel can be reached at akissel@bozeman.net or (406) 582-2320.

Membership:

Board members are appointed by the City Commission to staggered two year terms and shall not be elected officials of the City, full-time appointed City officials whether exempt or nonexempt, or City employees, nor shall they be currently serving on any other City board or commission. They shall be residents of the City.
